Team USA is Not the Only Reason Many of the NBA's Best are Headed for Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) August 18, 2007 -- Over 30 NBA players, including All-Stars Kevin Garnett, Chauncey Billups, Baron Davis, Antoine Walker, have begun arriving in Las Vegas at Abunassar Impact Basketball to prepare for the 2007 - 2008 NBA season.
With less than 2 months to go until the start of training camp, the players have begun a rigorous training program at Abunassar Impact Basketball, consisting of long days of on court training, performance training, work with nutritionists and physical therapists, among many others. Never before have so many players been together in one facility to prepare. As Detroit Piston Tayshaun Prince says, "AIB provides us with a unique opportunity to get everything we need to be successful, under one roof. There really isn't anything like this. We (Prince and the other players) feel that by working with Joe and his staff at AIB and Athletes' Performance, we will be sharp on the court, strong and healthy in all regards, and mentally ready to handle a long season ahead. We trust him in all regards to get us ready to go"
Chauncey Billups adds, "I have worked with Joe for the last 10 years of my career, and, now, I am an all-star and playing for Team USA. He and his staff have put together a training program that makes it difficult for NBA guys not to come. It's just too good and the staff - including all the skills coaches, performance coaches, nutritionists, and therapists, do an amazing job of making sure we are ready to go. The set-up has really become almost like a 'Summer League for NBA veterans'."
Players begin each day with a 1:30 minute on-court workout to sharpen their skills and increase their levels of conditioning, then work for an additional hour and a half in the state of the art performance training center, lead by Athletes' Performance, the world's leader in performance training and physical development. Each player is placed on a specific meal plan and receives customized nutritional supplements and recovery shakes to accomplish their physical goals. The players then take a short break for lunch and return to play 5 on 5, their favorite part of the day. Many days, it looks like an all-star game as their have been up to 8 all-stars on the court at one time. The day is finished with treatment from the training staff and regeneration and recovery work - to make sure the players can all get up the next day and do it all over again.
As Kevin Garnet says, "It's all about results, and, with Joe and his staff, we (Garnett and the other players) have gotten great results. Each year you see guys training here and committing themselves to getting ready for the season, then going on to have career-defining seasons. This place is really special. There are a lot of places where guys can play ball in the summer, but nothing like AIB, where you can work with over 20 staff members who are all experts in what they do and play some of the best basketball you can imagine!"
Abunassar Impact Basketball and Athletes' Performance, with facilities in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, train players of all ages. This past spring, 20 of the 60 picks in the 2007 National Basketball Association Draft were prepared at both the Las Vegas and Los Angeles facilities, including 5 of the top 11 picks.
Many players, such as Minnesota Timberwolves Sebastian Telfair an New Jersey Nets Antoine Wright, have been training in Las Vegas since May, dedicating their entire off-season to improving their games, their bodies, and their minds to prepare for next season. As Telfair says, "coming here so early was the best thing I have ever done in my career. I wanted to and needed to have a great season next year and by committing to 5 hours per day of training, eating right, and really focusing on working on all parts of my game, I have lost 15 pounds, feel better than ever, and my game is as sharp as it has ever been."
Abunassar, who for the past 10 years has been developing some of the best talent in the NBA, adds, "We feel that we have taken the best of everything and put it under one roof, and, put it in ideal locations, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, 2 places where guys love to spend their off-seasons, and the performance of the guys we have worked with over the past years speaks for itself. Most fans and observers of the game don't realize what these guys go through to prepare for such a long season. It's really extraordinary to see al these guys working so hard."
