The Denver Nuggets are based in Denver Colorado, a member of the National Basketball Association's western conference and northwest division. They play their home games at the Pepsi Center and have five division titles to their name so far.

Run and Gun

The Nuggets were born in 1967, and were originally a part of the American Basketball Association. Despite having a strong team roster, the Nuggets failed to deliver until 1976, when the team reached the ABA finals. Unfortunately, this was also the year that the ABA folded and the Nuggets moved into the NBA. Early on, the Nuggets performed impressively and there was a good demand for Denver Nuggets tickets. But the team quickly fell back and was headed into a downward spiral in 1979.

Things would only change for the team in 1981, with the arrival of Doug Moe as head coach. Moe made a significant change to the Nuggets' approach to playing- he initiated what is known as the run and gun approach, where the main focus of the team is to score and nothing else. This meant that powerful offensive players often just ran with the ball, lobbing and dunking at will. It also meant that the defensive side's importance was visibly reduced. This approach to play soon made the Nuggets, one of the most competitive teams on the circuit.

Enver Nuggets

Even though this aggressive style of play raked in sales of Denver Nuggets tickets and seemed to work for a while, it soon took its toll on team performance. While the Nuggets were scoring, they were also surrendering a number of points due to their weak defensive line up. This lead to them being known as the Enver Nuggets, since they had no 'D'. The team needed to find a new strategy and they did, which was helped with the inclusion of a number of talented new players.

The Nuggets began to emerge as the dark horse of the NBA and sales of Denver Nuggets tickets began to rise. The team made history when they beat the Seattle Supersonics in an overtime-game 98-94, thus becoming the first ever 8th seeded team in the NBA to beat a 1st seeded team. With minor fluctuations, the Nuggets have managed to improve their game slowly but steadily and were able to win their fifth NBA division title in 2006. Today, the Nuggets are still seen by many as the dark horse that could possibly rise up and clinch some big wins.
